Essay:

Load-shedding has become the major problem of Pakistan. Loadshedding is a result of the recent energy crisis in Pakistan, especially in the year 2009. Pakistan had to suffer from a massive energy decline of 3.09 % from the previous year. Our country needs at least 15,000 MW to 20,000 every day. Unfortunately, we are only able to get 11,500 MW. Which has resulted in load-shedding. It has turned many cities and villages of Pakistan into a place of darkness.
There are many contributing factors behind load-shedding. Both the government and consumers (صارف) are equally responsible for this shortfall. The first and obvious reason behind load-shedding is poor utilization of energy resources. Allah Almighty has blessed Pakistan with various sources to obtain energy but our energy department is contented to gain electrical power from coal and water resources. Secondly, corruption and theft in WAPDA causes casual breakdowns in the electrical power supply and increases the tariff and this extra tax has to be paid through common customers. Thirdly, Pakistan is suffering from over-population as the annual population growth rate of Pakistan is 2.0 %. As the population increases, the number of electrical connection will increase too. Our country does not have sufficient energy resources to meet any further energy demand. Fourthly, our existing dams are losing their capacity of storing adequate water for generating electricity.
The consequences of load-shedding on Pakistan are harmful to any sphere of life. It affects our industrial growth as our industries are no longer able to produce a satisfactory amount of their products. Therefore other people hesitate to invest in Pakistan. The result comes in economic decline. Continuous load-shedding proves dangerous for many sensitive electrical appliances like refrigerators, air conditioners etc. Moreover, many criminals take advantage of load-shedding to promote criminal activities like kidnapping or robbery. Load-shedding also plays havoc with the future of students. They often find it difficult to complete their task in the absence of electricity.
This harmful situation demands the permanent alleviation of load-shedding. It is our first and foremost duty to use electricity wisely in our houses, offices, schools colleges, universities and in any place that is run by electrical power. Our government should take proper care of all energy resources so that it may reduce load-shedding. Thirdly, our water department should build new dams like Kalabagh Dam to meet new requirements of energy. And the present government should take drastic actions against theft activities in this regard.
Elimination of load-shedding is necessary for social economic and moral progress of Pakistan. Our government is successful in ending load-shedding in certain areas of Pakistan. It should try its best to make the whole country free from the scourage (عذاب) of load-shedding.
