Essay:
A drug is a medicine which middles with the nervous system of the human body and make him almost forget about his actual work and he acts like a blind horse. Like many other countries, Pakistan is also becoming a massively affected country in respect to drug addiction. Marijuana is the most commonly used drug all over the world as it is consumed by the 3.9 percents of the total population of the whole world; between the age of 15 to 64 years old people (Reported by United Nations in 2008). In Pakistan, the present situation is going to more alarming side as 7.6 million people are affected by drug addiction and this number is increasing as almost 40,000 persons are added to drug addiction annually. If this keeps growing with the same number, our country has to face severe problems in the future.
There are many factors responsible for drug obsession in Pakistan. The prime factor is the social chaos and injustice found in our society. People are divided into different communities and standards. The poor people are growing more less financial whereas rich people are busy in making a large pile of bank balance. Such circumstances result in social inequality. Poor people have to face many problems to survive in the society. Their struggle and continuous failures cause mental illness among them and they find no shelter of relief except the temporary heaven of drugs. The poor condition of law and order condition is also responsible for promoting drugs across Pakistan. It is true that many political parties are involved in increasing the availability of drugs in common areas. But it is a pity that our security departments are also involved in making this happen.
The effects of drug addiction on human civilization are deeper and long-lasting. The addicted person does not take care of moral and social values and he never hesitates from committing any sort of crime in order to get back to his drug heaven. He also falls a victim to many diseases on account of his weak immune system. Moreover, he also suffers from social illness. No one believes in him and trusts him. He becomes a symbol of hatred in his society.
This miserable situation demands its solution. Firstly, a campaign should be raised against the side effects of the use of narcotics. Secondly, our government and concerned authorities should take serious and strict actions against the prolonging factors behind drugs and their availability. Thirdly, it is necessary for the present judiciary to show unprejudiced (غیر جانِب دارانہ) behaviour towards any case so that the rights of poor people remain safe and they should live a satisfactory life. Fourthly, addicts should be given a chance of returning to their actual activities. Some NGOs and institutes are also doing a great job in this respect so they must be admitted there. Eradication of drug addiction is necessary for the prestige and progress of our nation and country.
