Essay

The Water Crisis has become the core issue of Pakistan. It is estimated that Pakistan might run out of water resources until 2025. According to the IMF, Pakistan is having the third position among the countries facing severe water shortage. If proper measures are not taken and we leave this problem to get solved on its own, Pakistan will become the most water-stressed country in the region. (Credits: The News) We are already facing the shortage of water in big cities of Pakistan like Karachi, Lahore and Faisalabad etc. Areas like Thar (تھر) desert, people are dying on account of bad crops and water crisis is responsible for this. But this raises another question that what factors are responsible for the water shortage.
There are numerous factors responsible for water deficiency. The first one is the mismanagement of our water resources. According to Indus Bassin Treaty, Pakistan owns three rivers, Indus, Jhelum and Chenab rivers. But Sutlej, Ravi and Bias are owned by India so the availability of water in eastern Punjab depends upon the will of India. Secondly, our dams are losing the capacity of storing sufficient water for our daily use. Thirdly, we are wasting the water blindly such as in public areas, offices and even in our homes, we leave the tap opened and this practice is done on the daily bases. Fourthly, the earth temperature is rising annually. That is why the water in open areas evaporates and make them run dry. Fifthly, the population of Pakistan is increasing at a rate of 3.2 per cent. If it continues to increase at the same rate, it is estimated that 200 million more people will be added and hence, the water consumption will increase at the same rate means the underground water will have to bear severe stress.
Water crisis brings in to the countless harms on wildlife. They die on account of water unavailability. Crops are affected the most by such a scenario. They are unable to get natural resources as the underground water table is running too low. Resultantly, their production goes to seed (صِفر ہو جاتی ہے). Many futile lands will lose their native ability to produce crops. The story will end on famines. The core factor behind the water crisis, man, is also not safe from its harms. Water is essential for cooking, washing and even water cooling his body. Moreover, many investors will hesitate from investing their money in industrial areas of Pakistan as water plays a significant role in increasing our industrial resources smoothly. Consequently, our economy has to face a severe decline.
The whole situation demands a permanent solution. The first and obvious solution is to build new dams. The present government and the Supreme Court of Pakistan are taking a "keen" interest in building Diamer Bhasha and Mohmand dams. Secondly, our water management organization should take proper care of the present water resource. They should improve the capacity of storing water in the present dams. Thirdly, it is our duty to use less and make the best of the little but reasonable amount of water. We have to promote a campaign against the harms of excessive use of water on electronic, print and social media. In order to avoid Global Warming, we should grow more trees as trees use the excessive amount of Carbon Dioxide, produced by various vehicles and make environment moderate. We should also keep in mind that Allah Almighty tests His noble people in the form of difficulties. Instead of getting terrified from His tests, we should pray to Him for success in His tests and pray for His goodness. If everyone does his duty honestly on his behalf honestly and justly, this core issue will no longer exist. as alleviation of water scarcity is imperative (ضروری) for Green Pakistan.
