Essay
Global warming has been a roaring hit in the recent years for its fierce influences and aftermaths on our cherished planet. But most significantly, it is regarded as a burning concern and one of the major problems that we, the humans, have to face. Before discussing in length the effects and factors behind global warming, first, we have to unlock what global warming actually. To simply put, global warming is the increase of the global temperature of the planet earth as a result of the greenhouse effect that is caused by greenhouse gases. The greenhouse effect is mostly caused by the carbon dioxide that traps sunlight reflected from the earth and does not let it escape. Resultantly, the global temperature increases.
Now we know what global warming actually is, its impacts on our environment are catastrophic and alarming. The first obvious effect of global warming is an increase of global temperature. According to an estimate, after some years of continuous carbon emissions, the global temperatures might increase by +1.5 °C. That is enough to cook major living beings out of their existence. As the global temperature rise, icy glaciers begin to melt. Thus increasing the ocean's water-levels and putting the lives of coastal people at danger. Another consequence may come in the form of flooding. Thirdly, global warming may threaten crop production in the veil of drylands where there is insufficient water for crops to flourish. Fourthly, the sudden increase of warmth may prove ruinous for the algae in the ocean, causing oxygen shortages as algae provides a considerable share of oxygen to the oceanic life. Fifthly, when plants get dry as a result of global warming, they tend to catch fire and may put the forest on fire. The last effect of global warming is directly tied to food-chain disorder. When there will be less food to consume, animals will die as a result.
The horrific effects of global warming create a question in our mind that what has caused such a horrible disorder to happen in the first place. The first major cause behind the curse of global warming is the unchecked consumption of fossil fuels at a ridiculous level. It is no lie that we are consuming a great deal in our vehicles, in our home to cook food and in our industries to empower our lives. But what we have not realized that such actions of ours are the core cause behind the increasing concern of global warming. Because the burning of fossil fuels emits carbon dioxide massively that traps the reflected sunlight in the atmosphere. Some other gases are also emitted through our home appliances like a refrigerator that are diffused to the atmosphere among other greenhouse gases. Another cause behind global warming is deforestation. Deforestation means the unauthorized butchery of greeny forests. It is a well-established fact that forests and trees, in general provide us oxygen to breathe but consume carbon dioxide for their nourishment. But when there will be fewer trees then where will the spare carbon dioxide go? Of course to its greenhouse abode, thus causing global warming in particular.
Having known the dangers and causes behind global warming, it becomes essential for us to safeguard our planet against the clutches of global warming. We can start fighting against climate change by planting more trees. When more trees shall be planted, it shall not only consume the spare carbon dioxide but also shall keep the surroundings cool. Another step we can take is to recycle the waste and imply it in useful applications. As for the electricity, we shall consume it wisely. And instead of using fossil fuels, we must focus on renewable energy sources so that carbon dioxide emissions can be checked forth.
Earth is our planet. We are the civilized inhabitants of the earth. It is, therefore, our duty to make our survival on this planet possible not for us but for our future generations and all other living beings. Global warming is, no doubt, a problem difficult to deal with but not impossible. Let's unite together for our planet and for ourselves.
