Elements of a Story


  • Plot: arrangements of incidents and events in a story 
    Beginning: The characters and problems are introduced 
    Middle: Necessary steps are taken to tackle with the existing problem(s) 
    End: The problem gets solved or the protagonist gets to know of his mistakes or accomplishments. The story is concluded either by reader or writer.  

  • Conflicts: Be it internal conflicts, relating with one's inner minds. Be it external conflicts, problems of person to person, person to nature etc.  

  • Characters: The individuals in a story who take the responsibility to solve the problems and lead the plot forward through their dialogues, actions and reactions.  

  • Setting: The location in where the action of the story takes place and the time when the story is written (about).  

  • Themes: Central ideas, moral lessons and outcomes of the story. It may be a singular one and it may have multiple themes in it.
